Just Another Break In The Wall

So I wanted to do some scifi book covers, and I actually recently purchased some scifi stock images and I saw the model while searching through Deviantart. I just had to make it. I really love it and although it looked simple, the text was the hardest part.

This is another book cover where I wanted to do something really diverse. I am all about diversity in media and in my real life and thought it was high time to put my money where my mouth is. Again, I saw the model and I was instantly inspired by blues, and jazz. Then, I thought about my friend Starr who has encouraged and cheered me on since the get go and she lives in Missouri. So I decided to do something with St. Louis, and then to parallel the who blues feeling I actually made it blue.

Wikipedia Creative Common Images

I wanted to do more book covers, and challenge myself. The  main part of the challenge was to do a book cover from only from creative common images. And everything is in fact from creative common images.  I also wanted to have a good cache of book covers to sell this summer. I also wanted to practice on making original covers.  Also, I really wanted to use the model, because it’s very rare to find affordable stock images with people of color.

Emerald & Diamond Tiara by Ed Uthman

Oh my god, this book cover was a such trial to make. I had to replace the model like three times, and I still wasn’t completely sure about it. I want to go for a dystopia or an apocalyptic theme with this cover.  It for sale. If you are interested in buying this cover, you can contact me here.

Wikipedia Creative Common Images

So I thought about selling this, but to be it reminds me too much of Assassin’s Creed for me to do anything commercial with it, despite the fact these images are licensed for commercial use. This book cover took me forever to do, and the roofs and setting up the city, and getting the lighting and shading just right was the hardest part of this piece. This really was a labor of love, and I’m so proud of how it turned out.

So another premade book cover.  I was inspired by the actual stock photo which is fantastic.  I actually took a regular cityscape and set it in fire (well in photoshop)!  I actually like it a lot, and it didn’t take a whole lot of time to make.  I really loved how it turned out.

So I wanted to dip into something YA Premade Book Covers. So I found a summary on Fictionpress. I liked the base concept, but I hated the name and decided to base this premade cover based on the concept.  I really like the outcome, but it took forever to tweak everything just so to make it as awesome as it came out.  This cover for me, is the best original cover to date,  and I practically made it on a penny budget.  I’m just so freaking proud of myself.

Okay, after a week of being so sick that I couldn’t freaking work,  I actually got the acutally urge to write. So I wrote this sad little Buffy fic (I recently read the comics) and I got caught up in a whole lot of Buffy feels. I decided to write a biracial latino Xander (because I love shoving diversity everywhere I can) and ended up with 800 words of weird notfic.

What I posting right is actually the second draft of the cover because I accidentally chose to work with stock that was for DeviantArt use only.  So I had to change the model at the last minute.

So I always been a huge fan of this fic, it is in fact one of my favorite Star Trek reboot fics.  So when I read that she has given blanket permission on any spin-offs such as fanart and podfics on her works, I nearly jumped at the chance to take a crack at producing a fanart for it. This piece looks very simple, but in fact far from. I had to manipulate everything, and it was way harder than it looks.

ETA: This is like the third time I had to repost this because I keep messing up the title.  I should never post while sleep deprived.

So the title of this premade book cover was inspired by the song of the same name by Jaymes Bullet. I wanted to do something a little more difficult than what I was doing earlier, and I’m much more happy with the result.  It is available for sale.
